There are performance standards and test methods to determine the quality and performance of FR garments and to determine minimum and maximum performance of the fabrics. Conformance to these standards is voluntary on the part of the employer, however, using FR products that meet requirements standards ensure safety of the workers using the garments. Good quality garments are approved by testing laboratories and labeled accordingly. The garments will have a tag sewn into the fabric in a spot that is in good view. The tag should indicate not only the ATPV or cal rating along with the standards that the garment meets. Even though meeting certain standards is voluntary OSHA can and will use sources such as the NFPA 70E and the NFPA 2112 when citing companies
